Cynthia, yes, that’s very true for many. Connecting with people is hard… not nearly as easy as some seem to think. Connections have to be made with the right person or people. Often it’s almost a chemistry of sorts.
I find that if I’m with people with whom I just can’t connect, I try to “study” the circumstances, who they are, what’s being said, what my relationship to those persons is/are, how I got there — and try to learn something about myself.
Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. But often, although not always, it helps to feel less lonely by being mentally active.
Of course, there’s always the other option: just leaving when you’re with people when there’s just no connection!
