Chris, I had a “friend” — for about a minute and a half — who told me she was absolutely trustworthy and would never, ever reveal a secret or a confidence anyone ever shared with her.

And then she revealed one of mine, completely out of context, causing another person about whom I deeply cared, to believe her lies about me — as I, for a nanosecond — believed her lies about him.

After that brief but momentous disaster (for me), I wrote this:
